From June 2004-2007, JCI was an elected member of the NGO Committee on UNICEF's Executive Committee (called Global Forum). In this capacity, JCI contributed to the management of the body, events as well programs of the Commissions.

NGO Committee influences decision-makers and the variety of partners at grassroots level to improve children's lives worldwide and, especially, in developing countries.

The Committee engages in diverse activities that include advocacy campaigns, publications, consultation, and participation in international fora.

The mandate of the NGO Committee is:

a) To encourage consultation and cooperation among NGOs and facilitate NGO Coalitions and Networks at all levels;

b) To work with UNICEF to promote the well-being and rights of children everywhere;

c) To provide a forum for the substantive discussion about UNICEF policies and programs and child-related issues; and,

d) To support the principles and practices of Child Rights.

There are three permanent Commissions (called Working Groups) that are opened for the participation of JCI Local/National Organizations under the coordination of the JCI WHQ:

a) WG on Girl’s rights;

b) WG on Children’s education; and,

c) WG on Children with disabilities.
