The UN Global Compact is a framework for businesses that are committed to aligning their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption . As the world's largest, global corporate citizenship initiative, the Global Compact is first and foremost concerned with exhibiting and building the social legitimacy of business and markets. It has two objectives:

a) Mainstream the ten principles in business activities around the world; and,

b) Catalyze actions in support of broader UN goals such as the MDGs.

To achieve these objectives, the Global Compact offers facilitation and engagement through several mechanisms: Policy Dialogues, Learning, Local Networks, and Partnership Projects

In 2008, JCI passed a “Commitment to Action to Advance CSR Through the UN Global Compact”.

Based on it, on January 9, 2008, the UN Global Compact and JCI signed a Memorandum of Understanding. As per the agreement, the UN Global Compact is committed to supporting JCI at its Summit in the UN in July 2008, and to promote cooperation between its Local Networks and JCI National Organizations.

As part of its commitment to the UN Global Compact, JCI will develop a guide for engagement of small-and-medium enterprises/entrepreneurs on the issues of corporate citizenship and Global Compact. In addition and as per the 2008 JCI Commitment, JCI will create a “Recognition Program” to grant a “JCI Seal of Approval’ for companies that best embody the CSR concept.

As a result, JCI Local/National Organizations and UN Global Compact Local Networks are encouraged to work together in order to further its projects. The list of the contacts of the UN GC Local Networks is posted on the right side of the screen.
