JCI Dublin President attends Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change Conference Polar Explorer and Climate Change expert Marc Cornelissen today launched the search for Ireland’s 2007 Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change Ambassador. The chosen candidate will represent Ireland in the Climate Change College - a global initiative to combat climate change. “Marc Corneilssen explaining climate change to Mark Kelly and other youth at climate conference” The Ben & Jerry’s Climate Change College is created by Marc Corneilssen, a Dutch Polar Explorer and Environmentalist with over a decade’s experience in polar and climate change research expeditions. Marc made a presentation on his experiences in the Arctic, climate change issues. This is the first year that Ireland has participated in Climate Change College. Thousands of wannabe campaigners are expected to enter to win a scholarship to this 6-month course that incorporates a trip to the Arctic. JCI Dublin president Mark Kelly was very impressed by Mr. Corneilssen and the investment Ben & Jerry’s are putting into the youth. Mark Kelly said, “It is great to see companies realizing that the problems that the world faced with now like the melting ice caps will be solved by the youth of today in the future” Marc Cornelissen called for the youth of Ireland to take the lead in the global initiative to combat climate change, Mark Kelly agreed with this statement “JCI Dublin is all about empowering young people to take leadership rolls in the community and we need more people like Marc Cornelissen and more companies like Ben & Jerry’s Climate who are looking out for the good of the world. What’s involved ? The prize consists of a six-month part time programme including conferences, workshops and lectures with some of the most highly respected and influential figures in the environmental arena, online e-learning modules and a 10-day Arctic field programme.The chosen Irish ambassador will learn about the causes, politics and potential solutions of climate change have the opportunity to do research in the Arctic and will be trained on how to develop their own Climate Change Campaign to inspire others to act and conserve their energy use. Previous environmental experience is not necessary – only a passion to make a difference to climate change and people’s opinions.
