I pledge to serve this organization in the best way that I know how. I promise to give it my all, and most importantly, not to betray your trust.
-- 2008 JCI World President Graham Hanlon

Born December 14, 1968, in Dublin, Ireland, Graham Hanlon graduated from University College, Dublin, in 1989 with an Honors degree in Social Sciences. He undertook post-graduate studies in law and was admitted onto the High Court Roll of Solicitors in July 1994.

In 1995 he established his own legal practice in Dublin with Jeremy Doyle, now employing twelve full-time staff and currently expanding. He also started an auctioneering company in 2005. He is actively involved in politics having been elected for various positions within the Government Party, Fianna Fail. He is married to Lynne Jehoul, whom he met through JCI.

He became JCI Fingal President in 1992. He served as National President for JCI Ireland in 2002.

International Background

At the international level, Hanlon was Growth Commissioner for Area D and European Development Council (EDC) Chairman in 2003, JCI Vice President in 2004, a member of the JCI Business Commission in 2005, and General Legal Counsel in 2006. He is currently JCI Executive Vice President assigned to Europe. He is a European and World Debating Champion and has coached teams on debating skills since 1991.

He has attended seven JCI World Congresses and ten Area conferences. He is a member of the JCI Foundation and has been honored as JCI Senator 57120.

Active Citizenship

During his term of office, Hanlon will implement a Plan of Action of Action built upon the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Plans, but that will shift towards a strategic view. In that sense, this document should be seen as a strategic document which will promote “active citizenship.”

Active citizenship, “is the active role of people and organisations in the decision making process which directly effects them so that they can come together to directly exercise economic, social and political power in pursuit of shared goals,” says Hanlon.

“I pledge to serve this organisation in the best way that I know how. I promise to give it my all, and most importantly, not to betray your trust,” said Hanlon at the Presidential caucus meeting. “In return all that I ask of you is that you sign up to be active citizens and let us together make JCI the organization of choice...”
