The Junior Chamber International Dublin (JCI Dublin) is
launching its “GIVE 100%
Project” in aid of UNICEF Ireland’s ongoing work for the
children of Haiti.
The project was launched on June 1st 2010, International
Children’s Day and
will run throughout the second half of the year with the aim
of raising €20,000.
The project aims to attract both companies as well as
individuals with the simple
ask of donating their lunch money to UNICEF for one day.
How
Donating is simple and all raised money will be donated 100%
to Haiti Appeal Unicef
fund. No administration charges will apply in contrast to
many other non-for-profit
organizations. If you are an employee in any size company
and would like to get
your co-workers involved, all you need to do is introduce
the GIVE 100% campaign
to your company through letters and posters which JCI Dublin
will provide and encourage
employees to donate their lunch money on one specific day.
About
The Current Situation
"A full generation of Haitian children still face an
uncertain future" (Aaron Downes,
Corporate Relationship Manager at UNICEF Ireland).
The earthquake that devastated Haiti on the 12th January
2010 killed over 220,000
people, injuring over 300,000 and causing up to 4,000
amputations.
Three million
people, or 30 per cent of the population, have been
affected; almost 1.3 million
are living in temporary shelters in over 400 spontaneous
sites
in the Port-au-Prince
area, while more than 600,000 have moved to outlying areas,
including some 300,000
children.
Already before the earthquake, Haiti’s children were up
against unfavorable indicators:
one in every 13 infant died before the age of five; over 30
per cent of
Haitians
under the age of five were chronically undernourished; 55
per cent of school-aged
children were out of school; 50,000 were in some 600
residential
care facilities;
an estimated 2,000 girls and boys were trafficked across
borders annually.
The children of Haiti need our continued support to help
rebuild their future.

The concept of Friendly
Business Awards introduced by JCI Belfast was developed in Dublin for
the first time in 2007. The aim of the project is to acknowledge
businesses that actually cater for the needs of the community and thus
their clients.
Businesses are created by people and as such they
are an integral part of communities. Therefore it is of great
importance to recognize the standards that should be met and observed by
those involved in day-to-day running of businesses.
The Friendly Business Awards 2010
will acknowledge businesses operating within the following categories:
Customer
Care/Friendliness.
Eco Friendliness
Shop
layout/Design
Disability Access.
The Awards Ceremony usually takes place in the Mansion House (Dawson Street) having the Lord Mayor
of Dublin as a special guest, along with key note
speakers like Feargal Quinn or Emer Jameson, Managing Director at yourlocal.ie.
The project is an annual initiative and has the support of Dublin City Council and Lord Mayor's Office.
The Responsible Entrepreneur is a business project launched by JCI Dublin in 2009.
Part of the project are quarterly Business dinners as well as business workshops, where young entrepreneurs can learn, discuss business topics and exchange ideas.
JCI Dublin organised the first of a series of
entrepreneurs dinners on the 10th November 2009.
The event was called Successful Practices for Entrepreneurs
- Listen, Learn & Network - and gave participants the opportunity
to meet a successful and inspiring entrepreneur while networking,
sharing ideas and enjoying dinner.
The speaker was Patrick O'Sullivan, who started as an entrepreneur at
the age of 23. In 2000 he launched the “Storm Cinemas” brand and
developed the Group into Ireland’s fastest growing cinema chain,
strategically targeting provincial locations. When he sold the
business in 2008 at the age of 39, Storm Cinemas had 6 modern multiplex
locations, 42 screens, over 8,000 seats, 2 million customers per annum
and an annual turnover in excess of €20m.
Patrick was a great inspiration for everybody present. He touched on
very important topics related to entrepreneurship, he was very open and
eager to talk to his audience.
Almost
20 young entrepreneurs were present on the night, getting involved in
conversations and interacting with the speaker. They left inspired and
full of new ideas.
Participants also enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and a three course
delicious dinner, while networking.
The
entrepreneurs dinner was a successful blend of business, inspiration
and pleasure.
In February 2010 a second dinner was organised. If you are interested in getting involved either as organiser or as participant, please contact

CYEA
The JCI Creative Young Entrepreneur Award (JCI
CYEA) is a new international award which was designed specifically to
recognize outstanding young entrepreneurs.
JCI (Junior Chamber International) is the world’s largest network of
young leaders and entrepreneurs. As young leaders and entrepreneurs, we
endeavor to find ways to recognize and support outstanding examples in
these areas.
This exciting new international award recognizes, honors and celebrates
exceptional young entrepreneurs and the role of creativity in their
success. Participating Organizations will not only raise their profile
in the community, through organizing and administering the program,
they will develop their own leadership skills, fostering fellowship
across their communities.
The JCI World Public Speaking Championship offers
members a unique opportunity to exercise and showcase their abilities
and to share ideas on issues of particular importance to fellow members.
A speech competition requires a special kind of public speaking,
challenging participants to express creative ideas in a clear and
captivating manner. Every well-prepared speech should have an
introduction that captures the attention of the audience, a body
featuring the speaker’s message, and a powerful conclusion summarizing
the speaker’s arguments.
The competition is intended to give the finest speakers an opportunity
to compete for greater recognition and challenge. National contest
winners are encouraged to compete at the JCI Conferences. The winner
from each JCI Conference is then expected to represent his or her Area
in the final round of the JCI World Public Speaking Championship at the
JCI World Congress to be held in Antalya, Turkey, November 5 –11, 2007.
The topic of the 2007 JCI World Public Speaking Championship is: Be Better
... to the advancement of the global community, JCI provides
young people the opportunity to develop the leadership skills, social
responsibility, entrepreneurship and fellowship necessary to create
positive change.
