JCI -UN Millennium Development Goals Poster Competition

The aim of this project of to generate awareness of the Millennium development goals in Ireland focusing on students, there parents and teachers. It is the goal of this project that if we can reach out to this area of Irish society that they will in turn pass the information on the Millennium development goals on to their peers.

 

Every student is asked to design a poster titled Achieving the goal which will be inspired by the Millennium development goals

The  Millennium development goals are

1.        Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

2.        Achieve universal primary education

3.        Promote gender equality and empowerment of women

4.        Reduce child mortality

5.        Improve maternal health care

6.        Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria & other diseases

7.        Ensure environmental sustainability

      8.     Develop a global partnership for development  

 

JCI Ireland's UN Millennium Developmental Goals Competition Rules

1.        The competition is open to all young people under 19 years of age on 24th October 2008 who are living in Ireland.

2.        Only 1 entry is allowed per person.

3.        Poster must be submitted on A3 paper and can be completed using any medium. Framed entries are not permitted.

4.        Posters should be given a title by the entrant and if desired they may also submit a descriptive narrative of their poster (limited to 50 words).

5.        The following information should be clearly printed on the back of entry

a.        Name     b. Address     c. Home phone number   d. Date of Birth    e. Descriptive narrative if desired.

f.      School's name   g. School's address   h. School's telephone number j. Teacher's name

6.        Signature of Parent, Guardian or Teacher (This signature is required to confirm that the work is original and unaided. If numerous entries are sent from one school one signature of the art teacher is sufficient).

7.        Closing date for entries is Monday 27th October 2008.

8.        All entries should be sent to JCI Ireland, 44 Belvedere Place, Dublin 1.

9.        The decision of the Judging Panel is final.

10.     IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO RETURN ANY POSTER SUBMITTED. Any entry into the competition will remain the property and copyright of JCI Ireland.

11.     Any Artwork submitted may be used by JCI Ireland after the competition and prior to next year's competition.

 

 What are the United Nations Millennium Development Goals?

The united Nations Millennium Developmental Goals area as follows:

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

JCI Dublin have summarized what these goals mean as follows:

 “The UN Millennium Developmental Goals look to help the poor and sick people in the world. They aim to aid all people to learn basic skills and to ensure that everyone is treated equally. The goals also look to help us to maintain the beautiful environment in which we live”.

Competition Structure

Who can enter?

Any child under aged 12 or below on the 26th October 2007 who is a resident in the republic of Ireland may submit an entry to this competition.

  Age categories.

The competition will be divided into four ages categories – under-13 years of age, Under-11 years of age, Under-9 years of age and Under-7 years of age. Children aged 12 and 11 will be entered in the Under 13 age category and so on.

  Format of entries

  Submission of entries

Entries should be sent to JCI Dublin, c/o Dublin Chamber of Commerce, 7 Clare St, Dublin 2.  Closing date for entries is 29th October 2007.
